Upgrade to WP 2.0 In Progress
I’m upgrading my site to WP 2.0 this afternoon, so things may look a little out of sorts for a while. Hopefully everything will go smoothly…and not break my theme too badly). If it looks weird, just enjoy it…and come back again in a few minutes.
Wish me luck!
Update Progress
- 12:40 pm – Downloaded and extracted WordPress package
- 12:43 pm – Database backed up
- 12:44 pm – Site Files backed up
- 12:45 pm – Backups Verified
- 12:46 pm – All plugins deactivated
- 12:47 pm – Verified all initial steps complete
- 12:52 pm – Began deleting old WordPress Files (see you on the other side! *crosses fingers*)
- 1:06 pm – New WordPress files loaded; ran Upgrade
- 1:10 pm – Updated Permalinks and .htaccess
- 1:12 pm – Activated “Author Highlight” plugin and verified that it was functioning correctly
- 1:18 pm – Activated “Angsuman’s Referrer Bouncer” plugin and verified that it was functioning correctly.
- 1:20 pm – Fixed broken link to image (I’m assuming this was caused by the permalinks)
- 1:21 pm – Discovered broken link (/Laboratory/)
- 1:25 pm – Found the cause of the broken link…there is already a directory called “laboratory”…so permalinks don’t work
- 1:30 pm – Changed directory that was causing the problem and fixed links
- 1:40 pm – Discovered issue with html encoded text – WP 2.0 reformats encoded text into plain text…which breaks my code blocks when I edit a page or post containing html encoded text. I hope there is an easy workaround for this!
- 1:46 pm – Tested comments
Success!
It took about an hour overall to do the entire process including backup and debugging afterwards. Some of that time isn’t real fair to count though because I didn’t have permalinks enabled before and that was the main issue I had to debug. If you notice anything broken, please let me know. I’m out!

Haha indeed. I really shouldn’t count the time I spent debugging the permalinks issue…or the time I spent blogging it as I went (LOL)…but 10 seconds? Wow! I couldn’t have completed step 1 in that time! Advertise you services Kyle, you’ve got mad WP 2.0 upgrade skills!
