Microsoft “Atlas” Overview - Lubbock .NET Users Group Presentation

September 20th, 2006

I’ve posted the slides and demos for my recent presentation on the technology formerly known as “Atlas” (it is now known as the Microsoft AJAX Library, ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions, and ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit). I’ve haven’t been able to get my connection to the SQL 2005 Express .mdf file to work yet, so not all of the demos are working. Hopefully I’ll be able to get them running this weekend. The demos that don’t depend on the SQL connection are fully functional though. Also, the source code for the project is available for download as a zip, or viewable in individual text files. You will have to navigate through the slides in order to get to the links though. Please post if you have questions or problems with any of the code or demos.

Interesting that you seem to be having a similar problem as I am with the Sql 2k5 Express demo and Atlas. My specific problem I have is that when I attempt to call out through Atlas to his something on the Sql 2k5 database, I get a timeout the first request. After that subsequent requests seems to work properly. Is that the scenario that you are running into, or is there something different on yours.

@Wally - This is not the same problem I am having. My connection never worked. It turns out that user or file instances of SQL Express databases are not supported in Hosted environments. My host has provided me with a database to use…as soon as I have time I’ll get it up and running!

Microsoft has published some videos that are pretty cool discusing how to implement Atlas into existing projects.
