About half of all my recent posting has been directly related to the Microsoft ASP.NET Framework. I expected to see the visits from Apple Safari users drop as I posted more frequently on that topic. However, the opposite has occured. At the beginning of December, my Safari statistics actually jumped up one full percentage point (from 3% to 4%).

To what can this be attributed? An increase in Safari market share? The popularity of CakePHP or Mono? Lots of friends who are Apple users?

A search for “Shane” on Google finally turns up results for me on about page 5; “Rory” is result 1, page 1 (Rory’s remarks). I do show well for the full “Shane Shepherd”, but Rory dominates many, many, many pages for his full name.

The real questions are:

Will either of our rankings be affected by this single blog post that mentions both of our names a whole bunch?

Is Google’s engine savvy enough to recognize a blatant attempt to toy with it?

Will Rory notice this post?

If he notices it, will he care?

How much will milk cost on Mars when humans colonize it?

By the way, Rory defeats Shane 927 to 29 (results according to Technorati).

AjaxLessons.com is currently displaying the following message:

Prior to discovering the “Account Has Been Suspended” message, I received an email from Ajax Lessons informing me that they believed I was cheating in the contest by spamming in order to get entries. I was asked to provide a list of all the locations I was using to refer traffic to Ajax Lessons. I sent an email back insuring the sender that I was not cheating and included the list (a grand total of two sites graced my list). Even after I provided the list, my site was still removed from the statistics page showing the current contestants. I sent an email asking them to return me to the contest, but I have not received any response in several days.

I’m sure the site has just exceeded it’s hosting traffic limit as a result of this fairly clever referrer scheme, but I can’t help but enjoy a little irony for the moment. Just to be clear, I don’t wish Ajax Lessons any ill will, as a matter of fact I hope that it turns out to be a well run site. I was hoping for a chance to win those three books…so far it looks like I won’t be given that chance. Has anyone else experienced a similar circumstance?
